His Excellency Ambassador Obinna C. Onowu
Obinna Onowu is the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Kingdom of Belgium. He was formerly Charge d'Affaires En-Titre of Nigeria to Burundi. He has served as Minister, Embassy of Nigeria to the Kingdom of the Netherlands (2014-17), Legal Adviser/Alternate Political Coordinator, Nigeria's delegation to the UN Security Council (2010-11). He also served in Nigeria's Missions to the UK, Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, United States of America, Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, Switzerland and Consulate General in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Mr. Onowu's assignments in Abuja include Ag. Director, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017-18), Assistant Director, Office of the Permanent Secretary (2012-14) as well as European Affairs and Legal and Treaties Division. Furthermore, he served in the Multilateral Economic Cooperation Division (MECD)/International Economic Cooperation Directorate (ECD).
Mr. Onowu holds Bachelor's and Master's degree certificates in Law from Nigerian Universities (Benin and Jos), as well as a Certificate in Diplomatic Studies from Oxford University, UK. He is married with children.
